How does it arise?
Where do the most hurricanes occur?
Facts about hurricane Irma
The hurricane Irma started at sea, but soon it hit the Caribbean. Not only the Caribbean has been hit, there are many more areas. Saint Martin was also one of the first to be hit. Soon after that, Puerto Rico was hit. But, it didn’t stay there. It went on to Dominican republic and when everything there was destroyed, it went on to Cuba and then he went to Florida. How does a hurricane arise?
Hurricanes arise above the sea. The sea must at least have a temperature of 27 degrees. The sea water evaporates and goes into the air. The air cools down in the atmosphere and falls again. That’s how airflows arise. They are running at an amazing speed. The strange thing is that it is very quiet in the middle of the hurricane. At the edges of the hurricane it is blowing very hard. It can reach wind force 12.
Where do the most hurricanes occur?

Hurricanes get names so you can recognize the hurricanes easily.
In America hurricanes get boys or girls names. But in China, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand and Korea hurricanes get the names of gods.
How violent the hurricane is, is divided into different categories. Scientists have numbered categories from 1 up to 5. It is kind of obvious: category 1 is the least violent and 5 the most violent. In the 1st category the wind speed is up to 152 kilometers per hour. 2 characteristics of a Category 1 hurricane are: caravans are blown away and the coast is flooded. The second category has wind speeds up to 176 kilometers per hour. Wooden houses are then broken. Doors and poor quality roofs break down. A category 3 hurricane goes even faster. It can reach a speed up to 208 km per hour and the land then floods and small things are destroyed. In a hurricane from the fourth category there is danger for people who live in the low areas and all roofs are destroyed. That hurricane can go up to 248 km per hour. Lastly, you have a category 5 hurricane that's from 248 km per hour. It is so intense that even the houses blow away, so people must be evacuated..
